About

Founded in Los Angeles, CA, Easter Everywhere is a record label carefully curated to reflect and support a unique body of artists. Its ideals and values are derived mainly from niche publishing and recording imprints such as Black Sparrow Press and Takoma Records.

The label is committed to serving its recorded work with beautiful album packaging and artwork, allowing for the finished musical pieces to receive a suitably reverent physical production. Music is distributed as limited, vinyl-only prints and mp3 downloads. Each step of the production process is kept “in-house” – from an album’s mixing and mastering, to the artwork design and eventual distribution responsibilities.

Our current roster includes the Sleeping Bags and Mystery Claws.

Both of these albums can be bought online at EasterEverywhere.com or click here to see a list of physical stores.

It’s up for debate whether the fuzzy burn of speakers about to blow out can be called part of a song. If you ever find yourself in a room with Long Beach-based Sleeping Bags, I promise that you’ll have an opinion on the subject. Burying Matt Kivel’s warm vocals in layers of cascading guitars, crashing drums, and a hot, bubbly layer of melodic fuzz, Sleeping Bags create a monolith of sound, wrapping the listener tight and not letting go
until they make sure they’ve felt every note.

With a reverence for My Bloody Valentine, Nick Drake, Neu! and Bowie’s Berlin trilogy, Sleeping Bags’ songs are about finding serenity within the wall of sound. The band is also intent upon exploring the difference between the live monolith and the recorded one, the way the experience of listening to music live inherently changes it.

The band is a collective effort on the part of Matt Kivel (Princeton), Jesse Kivel (Kisses, Princeton), Abe Burns (Gentle Hands) and Mark Nieto (COMBAT!).

While the backbones of the band’s recorded songs were produced over the course of two evenings, what came later took much longer, with the addition of sound sculptures and ambient pieces that branch and swell through the entirety of record. What resulted from this combination of improvisation and careful, meticulous composition is a visceral, emotional and lush collection of songs, connected by their driving guitars and thick, exacting layers.
